SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 151 In Memory of Lucia Carmona Garcia WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Bexar County in mourning the loss of Lucia Carmona Garcia, who died February 2, 2013, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Lucy Carmona was born January 24, 1933, in Laredo; she married Anacleto M. Garcia, Jr., on June 9, 1951, and the couple moved to San Antonio in 1956; and WHEREAS, Lucy became a well-known pillar of the San Antonio community and served as president of the Parent Teacher Association for the Edgewood school district; she also served as a social worker, and she founded Holy Family Senior Nutrition Program and managed it for 20 years; and WHEREAS, She was a dedicated community activist who was highly involved with Democratic Party political campaigns; in 1984, she was commissioned a Yellow Rose of Texas by Governor Mark White and was appointed Hidalgo de San Antonio de Bejar by the Bexar County Commissioners Court; and WHEREAS, Lucy was a generous, kindhearted person who was respected in the community for her many accomplishments and for her courage in the face of her illness; she was a woman of deep faith, and she was devoted to her husband, her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Lucy Garcia was a source of strength and joy to others and was beloved by many, and she will long be remembered with affection and appreciation by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Lucia Carmona Garcia; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lucy Garcia.
