SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 152
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
welcome the citizens from across the state who are assembled in
Austin on February 20, 2013, for Substance Abuse Prevention and
Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Substance abuse is a serious issue with social and
financial costs that can destroy lives and families; the
prevention of substance abuse and the treatment of chemical
dependency are worthy endeavors and provide positive and
measurable contributions to society; and
WHEREAS, Since 2005, three outstanding substance abuse
treatment and prevention organizations have been working
together to carry the message that these services are vital
services for the state; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Addiction Professionals
represents chemical dependency counselors; the Association of
Substance Abuse Programs represents and coordinates over 60
community-based nonprofit substance abuse treatment and
prevention organizations across the state; and the Texas Summit
Committee for Prevention is a coalition of agencies focused on
drug and alcohol prevention education; and
WHEREAS, These organizations are hosting Substance Abuse
Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day to provide a forum for the
discussion of substance abuse issues in the state and to advocate
for legislative support in the fight against substance abuse and
in the effort to heighten public awareness of this affliction;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby proclaim February 20, 2013, Substance
Abuse Prevention and Treatment Advocacy Day at the Capitol and
commend all those who work each and every day to prevent and treat
substance abuse; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
recognition of this occasion.
