SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 188 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pleasure in recognizing Staff Sergeant Jeffery Musgrave, who received the Bronze Star with Valor Device and the Purple Heart for his courage in combat; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Musgrave was wounded on May 17, 2010, while he was deployed in Wardak Province, Afghanistan; he and his Special Operations Task Unit were completing a home search when three rounds of enemy fire tore through his bicep; and WHEREAS, Unaware of the seriousness of his wound, Sergeant Musgrave returned fire, ignoring multiple incoming rounds, then left his position to man a comrade's M-249 Squad Automatic Weapon; seriously injured by now, he continued to engage enemy fire and defend his unit; and WHEREAS, The conflict escalated as Sergeant Musgrave and his team tried to vacate the area; when their military transport became mired in mud, the undaunted soldier used his one functioning arm to hold off the enemy and help create a defensive perimeter around the vehicle until it could be recovered; and WHEREAS, For his uncommon valor, Sergeant Musgrave has earned the respect of a grateful nation; his bravery and steadfastness to duty have earned him the esteem of his colleagues in the United States Army Special Forces, 1st Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Staff Sergeant Jeffery Musgrave for his gallant actions on the battlefield; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
