SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 202
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is honored to
recognize The Children's Shelter and Voices for Children of San
Antonio as they host the Remember 19 Vigil on February 19, 2013; and
WHEREAS, This somber occasion pays tribute to the 19
children who died in San Antonio last year as a result of abuse or
neglect; these innocents were between the ages of one month and
18 years old when their lives were tragically cut short; and
WHEREAS, As the community gathers to mourn their
collective loss, child care advocates are reminded of the grave
dangers that threaten children who live in compromised
households; and
WHEREAS, This poignant vigil also underscores the
ceaseless commitment of entities like The Children's Shelter and
Voices for Children of San Antonio; both groups strive to prevent
such incomprehensible deaths with educational and preventative
programs for at-risk adults and to simultaneously improve the
lives and futures of all children in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, Since 1901, The Children's Shelter has been a
sanctuary for the youngest and most vulnerable; each year, it
serves 3,000 children and families, and its offerings include
adoption and foster care services, residential treatment centers
for children, and rehabilitation programs for troubled parents; and
WHEREAS, Voices for Children of San Antonio emphasizes
advocacy, with a focus on shaping public policy and facilitating
collaboration in the effort to keep children safe and to enhance
their earliest childhood development; Voices for Children
connects more than 500 organizations in San Antonio; and
WHEREAS, These two groups provide immeasurable support for
endangered and abused children and are deserving of the highest
accolades for their unending dedication; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby commend The Children's Shelter and
Voices for Children of San Antonio as they gather for the
Remember 19 Vigil; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of great esteem from the Texas Senate.
