                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 241
 In Memory
 of
 Leslie E. Goldstein
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Leslie E. "Lon"
 Goldstein, who died January 28, 2013, at the age of 94; and
 WHEREAS, Born May 13, 1918, this beloved longtime coach and
 mentor showed an early affinity for athletics; he was a
 three-sport letterman at Fort Worth's Polytechnic High School,
 and he signed a Major League Baseball contract with the
 Cincinnati Redlegs and played professionally for various teams
 over a period of 25 years; and
 WHEREAS, On December 21, 1940, he married Geraldine
 Newsome; the couple shared 63 years of marriage and raised a
 family, which brought them much joy; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Goldstein served his country honorably during
 World War II in the United States Army; he held a master's degree
 in education from Texas Wesleyan College, and he enjoyed a long
 career teaching and coaching at Carter-Riverside High School in
 Fort Worth; he also served as athletic director for the city's
 public schools until he retired in 1985; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Goldstein was recognized for his many
 achievements by induction into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame
 and the Texas Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame; he was also honored as
 Texas Athletic Director of the Year, and a baseball field in Fort
 Worth is named after him; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Goldstein made a lasting impression on the
 many young athletes he mentored, and he will long be remembered
 for his contributions to his state and his country; and
 WHEREAS, A man of warmth and wisdom, he leaves behind
 memories that will be cherished by his family and friends; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 bereaved family of Leslie E. Goldstein; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Lon Goldstein.
