SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 253 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Texas City in celebrating the naming ceremony of Hines Memorial Church of God in Christ on February 24, 2013; and WHEREAS, LaMarque Chapel Church of God in Christ is being renamed in honor of the late Dr. Allen J. Hines, who founded and built the church and who played a vital role in the advancement of the Church of God in Christ denomination; and WHEREAS, Dr. Hines received his call to the ministry in 1950 and began an evangelistic ministry in East Texas and North Texas; he went on to serve as chaplain for Church of God in Christ students at his alma mater, Prairie View A&M University, and at Texas Southern University; he also founded and built Garden of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ in Houston; and WHEREAS, Dr. Hines organized a system of educational institutions for the Church of God in Christ known as the Charles Harrison Mason System of Bible Colleges; the system's Bible colleges have had a significant impact on the growth and success of the denomination; and WHEREAS, He received numerous awards for his contributions to the Church of God in Christ community, including the International Theological Center's Distinguished Leadership Award; it is truly fitting that the church he founded bear his name; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. Allen J. Hines and extend best wishes to all attending the Hines Memorial Church of God in Christ naming ceremony; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special occasion.
