SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 288
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church on the occasion of
its Official Texas Historical Marker dedication ceremony, which
is being conducted by the Harris County Historical Commission on
March 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Texas Historical Commission honors those
places and institutions that have had historical significance to
the community and state, and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church
has had a positive impact on the citizens of Houston and Harris
County for many years; and
WHEREAS, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church has its roots
in a church organized in the late 1890s in Freedmantown that was
known briefly as Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church; in 1907, the
church bought land at 1216 Ruthven Street and built a one-story
wood structure; and
WHEREAS, In 1912, the church incorporated as Macedonia
Baptist Church, and in 1928, it purchased the land where it rests
today at 1401 Ruthven Street; over 20 years later, the church
erected a large two-story structure that included an auditorium,
classrooms, and a kitchen; and
WHEREAS, The church experienced congregational growth and
expanded its outreach programs and assistance to the community;
over the years, the church has supported charitable causes and
has consistently reached out to those in need; and
WHEREAS, Today, the church, now known as Macedonia
Missionary Baptist Church, continues to provide enlightenment,
hope, and support to members of its congregation, the community,
and the residents of Houston; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to all who are a part
of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church community and best
wishes for a memorable Official Texas Historical Marker
dedication ceremony; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this ceremony and Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
