SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 35 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Reverend Doctor Ronald E. Jones on the occasion of his installation as senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Dallas, which is taking place January 26 and 27, 2013; and WHEREAS, Dr. Jones will be the 13th pastor of the historic congregation, which was founded in 1873 to meet the temporal and spiritual needs of African Americans during the challenging days of Reconstruction; and WHEREAS, Dr. Jones is a graduate of Dallas Baptist University, and he earned a master's degree from Abilene Christian University and a doctoral degree from Cornerstone University; he is serving his third and final term as mayor of the City of Garland, capping a 29-year career in city service that saw him serve as assistant city manager and create a relief center for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; and WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Dr. Jones has throughout his ministerial career demonstrated an enduring commitment to helping others; his wise counsel and his inspirational example have had a profound impact on the lives of countless people; and WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian, Dr. Jones is sure to carry on the New Hope Baptist Church's mission of providing enlightenment and hope to its congregation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Reverend Doctor Ronald E. Jones on his legacy of service and dedication and extend to him best wishes for success as senior pastor of New Hope Baptist Church; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
