                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 352
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize military veterans who have returned to school to
continue their education so that they may better serve as a force
for prosperity and progress in our state and nation; and
WHEREAS, The men and women who have served our state and
nation in the active military, the National Guard, and the
reserve forces have played an integral part in building and
maintaining today's society; in addition to protecting the
nation's ideals and security at outposts around the world, they
contribute to public safety through their work in helping people
deal with the ravages of hurricanes, fires, and other natural
 disasters and emergencies; and
WHEREAS, The State of Texas is working to aid these
veterans as they reenter civilian society with such efforts as
the Hazelwood Legacy Act, which endeavors to provide an education
to veterans and their families, and through its support and
promotion of the federal government's Post-9/11 G.I. Bill; and
WHEREAS, Institutions of higher education across the
state, including the Alamo Colleges, Central Texas College,
Houston Community College, Lee College, Lone Star College, San
Jacinto College, and Temple College, are initiating programs to
help veterans receive college credit that reflects their
experiences and counts toward degree or certificate programs
that can help in their transition to the civilian job market; and
WHEREAS, Although these veterans represent many different
hometowns and backgrounds, they are united by their deep and
abiding love for our state and nation, and it is truly fitting
that the people of Texas do all they can to help them as they
rejoin the society they have done so much to protect; now,
 therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the student veterans of Texas for
their courage and determination and extend to them best wishes
for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
their honor as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
