                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 403
 In Memory
 of
 John P. Vittas
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of John P. Vittas, who died February 11,
 2013, at the age of 68; and
 WHEREAS, John Vittas was born October 16, 1944, in Queens,
 New York; he attended Brooklyn Technical High School, where he
 was a standout player on the school's New York City football
 championship team in 1960; he went on to graduate from C. W. Post
 College of Long Island University with a degree in industrial
 management and engineering; and
 WHEREAS, While attending college, Mr. Vittas met the love
 of his life, Wendy, and the couple married in 1968; they shared 44
 years of marriage together and raised three daughters, Jennifer,
 Melissa, and Amy; they were blessed with nine grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Vittas enjoyed a long and productive career
 with American Airlines; he began his career as a passenger
 service agent at New York's LaGuardia Airport and rose through a
 series of management positions to become manager of freight
 services at John F. Kennedy International Airport; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Vittas later became cargo standards director
 for the airline's parent company, AMR Corporation, headquartered
 in Fort Worth, and when the corporation created a subsidiary to
 provide contract airport ground services, he joined the new
 company in New York and led it to a position of prominence in its
 field; he retired in 2011 after serving as senior vice president
 of the company that had become Worldwide Flight Services; and
 WHEREAS, John Vittas was a man of courage, strength, and
 compassion who gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth,
 and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;
 and
 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of John P. Vittas; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of John Vittas.
