SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 406 In Memory of Joe A. Hinojosa, Sr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Brownsville in mourning the loss of Joe A. Hinojosa, Sr., who died July 6, 2012, at the age of 93; and WHEREAS, Joe Hinojosa was born in January of 1919 in Brownsville and was a descendant of South Texas pioneers; he was the great-grandson of Miguel Hinojosa, the original grantee of the El Palmito Spanish land grant, and of Estefana Salinas Lopez, of the San Pedro de las Motas Spanish land grant; and WHEREAS, Joe Hinojosa grew up during the Great Depression and served the nation with distinction during World War II as a member of the United States Army Air Corps; he was a member of one of the units in India that kept pressure on Japanese occupation troops by the famed maneuver known as "Flying the Hump"; and WHEREAS, After his military service, he returned to Texas and embarked on a career in the automotive business, first with Manski's Motors and then with Tip-o-Tex Chevrolet, where he worked for nearly 20 years; he then entered the field of security service with Marathon LeTourneau and attained the rank of captain before retiring in 1993; and WHEREAS, He was married to the late Bertha Morales Hinojosa for 54 years, and the couple was blessed with a son, Joe A. Hinojosa, Jr., who was a source of much pride and joy; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, Joe Hinojosa, Sr., gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Joe A.
