SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 459 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Brazoria County in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Facts; and WHEREAS, The Facts published its first edition on February 28, 1913, under the editorship of printer R. Roy Ruffin; known at the time as the Freeport Facts, the newspaper was delivered weekly and was one of seven area newspapers; it offered city, county, and state news but focused most of its coverage on social functions; and WHEREAS, Through the years, the Facts has undergone numerous changes in order to better serve its readers; it has gone from weekly to daily publication and places more of an emphasis on hard news than in days past, and it has established a website and a social media presence; and WHEREAS, Today, under the leadership of publisher and editor Bill Cornwell, the newspaper continues to keep the community's best interests in mind and to cover issues, leaders, and controversial circumstances in a fair and ethical manner; and WHEREAS, The celebration of its centennial anniversary is a testament to the newspaper's ongoing commitment to excellence and its service to the region; it is truly deserving of recognition as it achieves this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the owners, management, and staff of the Facts on their dedication to quality journalism and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the newspaper as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
