                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 476
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize United States Army Lieutenant General William B.
 Caldwell IV for his exceptional service to the nation; and
 WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Caldwell began his career in
 military service as a cadet at the United States Military Academy
 at West Point; he was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1976
 with a bachelor's degree in engineering; he went on to earn
 master's degrees from the United States Naval Postgraduate
 School and the School for Advanced Military Studies and to study
 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard
 University; and
 WHEREAS, Currently commander of United States Army North
 and senior commander of Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis, General
 Caldwell has held a variety of important posts, most recently as
 commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Training
 Mission-Afghanistan and Combined Security Transition
 Command-Afghanistan; his responsibilities included overseeing
 the establishment of a legitimate, sustainable, and effective
 Afghan National Security Force; and
 WHEREAS, He served as deputy chief of staff for Strategic
 Effects during Operation Iraqi Freedom; he has also served as
 commanding general of the 82nd Airborne Division and of the
 United States Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth; his
 many decorations and citations include the Defense Distinguished
 Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters,
 and the Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters; and
 WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Caldwell has served the United
 States Army with courage and distinction, and it is truly fitting
 that he be recognized for his role in defending the nation's
 security and ideals; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Lieutenant General William B.
 Caldwell IV on his exemplary service to the nation and extend to
 him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and,
 be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
