SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 490 WHEREAS, Representatives of the Texas Chemical Council and the Association of Chemical Industry of Texas are gathering in Austin on March 27, 2013, for Texas Chemicals Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, The chemical industry is a major engine of the Texas economy, with chemicals ranking among the state's leading exports; chemicals are used in the manufacture of an array of consumer goods ranging from home and vehicle building materials to food, clothing, electronics, and pharmaceutical products; and WHEREAS, Over 74,000 Texans are directly employed by the chemical manufacturing industry, and more than a half-million Texas jobs are sustained by chemical industry-related activity; in addition, chemical industry businesses bring more than $1 billion into the state's economy each year through payment of state and local taxes; and WHEREAS, Established in 1953, the Texas Chemical Council is a trade association of chemical manufacturing facilities in Texas; the Association of Chemical Industry of Texas, founded in 1983, represents chemical manufacturers as well as suppliers, contractors, and other associated service companies; both organizations work to safeguard the economic vitality of the chemical manufacturing industry by addressing issues that affect its stakeholders; and WHEREAS, Chemical manufacturing has played a crucial role in the economic prosperity of the Lone Star State, and Texas Chemicals Day presents a fitting opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of chemistry and chemical products in our daily lives; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby recognize March 27, 2013, as Texas Chemicals Day at the State Capitol and welcome all those visiting here today from the Texas Chemical Council and the Association of Chemical Industry of Texas.
