SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 498 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Virginia Gregory Van Cleave, who has been selected for induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame for her outstanding work in the area of volunteerism; and WHEREAS, The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame honors those women who have contributed significantly to the San Antonio community and the Bexar County region through their accomplishments in their profession or field of service; and WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Virginia Van Cleave has excelled in volunteerism, and her multifaceted contributions to her community have had a significant impact on the lives of area citizens; she has chaired major fund-raisers for such causes as the Battered Women's Shelter, the Children's Transplant Association, and the Birth Defects Foundation; and WHEREAS, She has served as chief executive officer of numerous organizations, including the March of Dimes, and she was a major player in the founding of the Assistance League Thrift House, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, which were in turn donated to help fund Operation School Bell, Toys for Tots, and college scholarships; and WHEREAS, Virginia Van Cleave is highly respected for her dedication to her work and for her outstanding accomplishments as a volunteer and community leader, and she is an inspiration to women across our state; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Virginia Gregory Van Cleave for her exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to her on her induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
