SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 499
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Amita Patnaik, who has been selected for induction
into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame for her outstanding
work in the field of science and technology; and
WHEREAS, The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame honors those
women who have contributed significantly to the San Antonio
community and the Bexar County region through their
accomplishments in their profession or field of service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Patnaik is an internationally recognized
cancer researcher whose career has spanned 15 years; a medical
oncologist and physician-scientist, she is the cofounder and
clinical director of South Texas Accelerated Research
Therapeutics in San Antonio; the organization operates one of the
largest Phase 1 cancer research programs in the world; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Patnaik has had a direct involvement with the
development of 16 anticancer drugs in the past decade that have
obtained Federal Drug Administration approval for patients with
advanced cancer; the therapies she has developed have had a
significant impact on the lives of patients by improving their
quality and length of life; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Patnaik is highly respected for her
dedication to her work and for her outstanding accomplishments as
an oncologist and a cancer researcher, and she is an inspiration
to women across our state; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Amita Patnaik for her
exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to her on
her induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
