SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 506
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Dr. Lyda C. Arévalo-Flechas, who has been selected for
induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame for her
outstanding work in the health professions; and
WHEREAS, The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame honors those
women who have contributed significantly to the San Antonio
community and the Bexar County region through their
accomplishments in their profession or field of service; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of a nursing career that has
spanned more than 25 years, Dr. Arévalo-Flechas has worked as an
operating room nurse, served in the United States Army Nurse
Corps during Operation Desert Storm, taught university students,
and earned a reputation as a cutting-edge researcher; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, she was inducted into The University of
Texas System Academy of Master Teachers as a Distinguished
Teaching Professor, and she is a recipient of the Presidential
Teaching Award from The University of Texas Health Science Center
at San Antonio; she is noted for her innovative research on the
factors influencing Hispanic caregivers' perception of the
experience of caring for a relative with Alzheimer's disease; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Arévalo-Flechas is highly respected for her
dedication to her work and is recognized internationally for her
research and the programs she has designed for her nursing
students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Lyda C. Arévalo-Flechas for
her exceptional achievements and extend congratulations to her
on her induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
