SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 524 WHEREAS, A strong democracy depends on a citizenry engaged with the issues of the day and committed to participation in the political process; and WHEREAS, The Grimes County Republican Women first organized in 2011, yet in just two years this local affiliate of the National Federation of Republican Women has made notable contributions to the area; and WHEREAS, Under the leadership of president Sherry Fauth, the group participates in a variety of worthy endeavors such as providing pocket copies of the United States Constitution for all fifth grade students in the county and donating patriotic reading material to public school libraries; they have also thanked every fire department in the county with baked goods and donated a large basket for an auction to benefit the Bedias Volunteer Fire Department; and WHEREAS, In addition to these local initiatives, the women send care packages to service members overseas several times a year and contribute to the Pennies for Postage program that benefits soldiers abroad and their children; and WHEREAS, Through their grassroots political activism, members of the Grimes County Republican Women are making a lasting difference in their community, state, and nation, and they may take justifiable pride in the dynamic growth of their organization in the past several years; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby honor the members of the Grimes County Republican Women and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
