SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 531 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize The John Cooper School on the occasion of its 25th anniversary; and WHEREAS, Located in The Woodlands, this outstanding educational institution is an independent, nonsectarian, coeducational, college preparatory day school; its mission is to provide a challenging education in a caring environment to a diverse group of select students, enabling them to become creative thinkers, responsible citizens and leaders, and lifetime learners; and WHEREAS, The school officially opened on September 6, 1988, and is named in honor of John Cooper, the longtime headmaster of Houston's Kinkaid School; Mr. Cooper was noted for his expertise and good judgement, and he skillfully guided the school through its original formation and early years of operation; and WHEREAS, The John Cooper School has grown from an initial enrollment of 175 students to an enrollment of more than 1,000 students from around the world; it is under the leadership of Head of School Michael F. Maher, who was recently elected to The Country Day School Headmasters Association of the United States; and WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that The John Cooper School be recognized for its superior educational environment and the countless opportunities it offers its students; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, staff, and administration of The John Cooper School on their commitment to excellence in education and extend to them best wishes for a memorable 25th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
