                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 533
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize the Shen Yun Performing Arts group on the occasion of
 its visit to San Antonio April 14 through April 16, 2013; and
 WHEREAS, The Shen Yun troupe was formed in New York in 2006
 by a group of overseas Chinese artists; its mission is to revive
 and share the essence of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization
 through the performing arts; and
 WHEREAS, At the core of Shen Yun performances is classical
 Chinese dance, an ancient and distinctive art form; in addition,
 the group incorporates folk and ethnic dances, visual
 storytelling, and breathtaking acrobatics; and
 WHEREAS, Shen Yun has achieved phenomenal success in only a
 few years; since its founding, the group has evolved from a
 single dance troupe into a complex production company with three
 simultaneously touring dance troupes, each with its own full
 orchestra; and
 WHEREAS, This highly regarded organization employs some
 300 artists; it captivates its audiences with the magic of
 movement and colorful handcrafted costumes, sharing the history
 and culture of ancient China; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby welcome the Shen Yun Performing Arts troupe
 to San Antonio and extend to its members best wishes for
 continued success; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 Shen Yun Performing Arts as an expression of high regard from the
 Texas Senate.
