                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 536
 In Memory
 of
 Steve Jones
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Lubbock County in mourning the loss of Steve Jones,
 who died June 25, 2012, at the age of 59; and
 WHEREAS, Steve Jones was a lifelong farmer and a leading
 citizen who had a deep love of the land; he was a 1982 recipient
 of the Outstanding Young Farmer of Texas award and had served as
 president of the Lubbock County Farm Bureau, the Lubbock County
 Agriculture Committee, and the New Deal School Board; and
 WHEREAS, Steve Jones was born in Lubbock to Charlie Jones
 and Peggy Wilson Jones on February 21, 1953; he was raised on a
 farm, and he graduated from New Deal High School and attended
 Texas Tech University before returning to the farm; and
 WHEREAS, Steve Jones and Patti James were neighbors and
 high school sweethearts; they married on August 18, 1973, and had
 two sons, Chad and Casey; and
 WHEREAS, Steve Jones loved to farm and worked many years in
 the agriculture industry; he farmed with his father as Charlie
 and Steve Jones Farms and Jones Produce until 1990 and then as
 Jones Produce until 2002; for the last 12 years he farmed with his
 wife, Patti, as S&P Jones Farms; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was a partner in Jones and Young
 Livestock, an enterprise that bred swine and produced numerous
 champions in 4-H and FFA youth livestock shows in Texas, New
 Mexico, Colorado, and Wyoming; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Jones was active in numerous agricultural
 organizations; he was a member of the New Deal Young Farmers, the
 Boll Weevil Eradication Program, the Lubbock County Agriculture
 Committee, and the Lubbock County Farm Bureau, and he was an
 active leader with the Texas AgriLife Demonstration Trials; he
 also served on the New Deal School Board for 12 years and was a
 faithful member of New Deal First Methodist Church; and
 WHEREAS, Steve Jones contributed immeasurably to Texas and
 Lubbock County agriculture, helping to preserve the livelihood
 of farmers across the state and helping to ensure the continued
 success of the next generation of Texas farmers; his legacy will
 be a continuing source of inspiration for all who knew him; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Steve Jones and
 extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:  his
 wife, Patti; his sons, Chad and Casey, and Casey's wife, Lacy;
 his sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita Binder and Bobby, Deanie
 Allen, and Karen Dunn and Rickey; his brother and sister-in-law,
 Phillip Jones and Denise; and his other relatives and friends;
 and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
 in memory of Steve Jones.
