SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 544 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Burleson County and Texans across the state in celebrating March 26, 2013, as Burleson County Day at the Capitol; and WHEREAS, Burleson County was established by the Texas Legislature on March 24, 1846, and Caldwell was named the county seat; and WHEREAS, The area was originally inhabited by Tonkawa Indians, and the Anglo-American settlers arrived in the region in the 1820s; the Mexican government soon established Fort Tenoxtitlan, which was placed under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Jose Francisco Ruiz; Colonel Ruiz later joined the Texans and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence; and WHEREAS, Many early settlers of the area were of Czech background, and county residents continue to pay tribute to the heritage of those early immigrants; Burleson County was named the official Kolache Capital of Texas by the state legislature, and the annual Kolache Festival draws thousands of visitors each year; other area attractions include Lake Somerville, several museums, city and rural parks, and seasonal events; and WHEREAS, The citizens of Burleson County are eagerly facing the future while enjoying their county's many amenities and celebrating its rich and colorful past; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the people of Burleson County on their contributions to the growth and prosperity of our state and extend to the county's delegation best wishes for a productive and memorable Burleson County Day at the Capitol; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Burleson County as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
