                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 569
 In Memory
 of
 Jane Swann Nethercut
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and pays
 tribute to the life of educator and advocate Jane Swann
 Nethercut, who died March 15, 2013, at the age of 63; and
 WHEREAS, Born New Year's Day in 1950, this compassionate
 soul dedicated her considerable talents to ensuring that young
 Central Texans had excellent educational opportunities and that
 they understood the importance of nonviolence in society; and
 WHEREAS, Jane Swann Nethercut started out teaching high
 school Latin and journalism in her native state of Georgia and
 was named the state's Outstanding Latin Teacher in her first
 year; and
 WHEREAS, After she and her husband, Dr. William Robert
 Nethercut, moved to Austin in 1976, she taught Latin and English
 at Gonzales High School in Gonzales; she then taught Latin and
 journalism at O. Henry Middle School from 1978 to 1987,
 establishing Austin's first Latin program for middle school
 students; and
 WHEREAS, From 1987 to 1999, Mrs. Nethercut taught at Lanier
 High School in Austin, where she also co-wrote the school's
 successful Blue Ribbon application; in 1995, she cofounded the
 International Day Without Violence, which drew human rights
 activists Arun Gandhi and the Reverend Joseph Lowery in its
 inaugural year; she ended her illustrious career as the Child
 Study System Coordinator for the Austin Independent School
 District Office of Learning Support Services; and
 WHEREAS, For her enduring commitment to education, Mrs.
 Nethercut was named Teacher of the Year at the school, district,
 and regional levels; she was an outstanding example for her three
 children, and she leaves them with a lifetime of cherished
 memories and a legacy of remarkable achievements; now,
 therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Jane Swann Nethercut; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Jane Nethercut.
