SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 573 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in San Antonio on the grand occasion of its centennial anniversary, which is being celebrated in 2013; and WHEREAS, The Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help was founded by the Reverend John Muehlsiepen on April 13, 1913; and WHEREAS, Over the years, the parish has served the spiritual needs of innumerable Catholics; and WHEREAS, The current church building was built in 1963, when the original church building had become too small to accommodate its flock of over 400 families; and WHEREAS, Due to the guidance and wise stewardship of its leaders, the congregation has undertaken many worthy projects with the community; and WHEREAS, The Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help has become an invaluable source of strength for its members during times of hardship and bereavement, and it has shared in many celebrations during times of abundance and joy; and WHEREAS, In addition to offering daily and Sunday Mass, Our Lady of Perpetual Help has a food pantry to feed the hungry and serves the needs of parishioners and residents of the east side of San Antonio with various events and activities throughout the year; the celebration of its 100th anniversary is indeed a joyous event worthy of recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of the Parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help on the joyous occasion of its 100th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to commemorate this historic event.
