SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 580 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Joe Al Picone of Brenham on the occasion of his retirement as executive director of the Blinn College Foundation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Picone has dedicated almost 40 years to serving his alma mater, Blinn College; a conscientious community servant, he is retiring as executive director of the Blinn College Foundation after having served with distinction in that position since 2007; during his tenure, Mr. Picone has helped to raise almost $10 million for facilities at the Brenham campus and other locations; and WHEREAS, As executive director, he has overseen projects ranging from the construction of new education, music, housing, and agricultural facilities to the purchase of equipment for the Blinn College Allied Health facilities at the Texas A&M Health Science Center; the foundation has also established $4.5 million in new endowed scholarships; and WHEREAS, Previously, Mr. Picone served for 17 years on the Blinn College Board of Trustees and was dean of business services at the school; and WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman is a member of the Brenham Evening Lions Club and has been a Lion since 1966; he has held many regional and statewide positions with the club; he was elected director of the International Association of Lions Clubs in 2011; and WHEREAS, Mr. Picone has received numerous accolades for his leadership and dedication; he has been named to the Blinn College Hall of Honor, the Phi Theta Kappa International Hall of Honor, and the Brenham Maifest Hall of Fame; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend retiring Blinn College Foundation executive director Joe Al Picone and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Joe Al Picone as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
