SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 584
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize the Duncanville High School Pantherettes on their
recent victories and their unrivaled team spirit; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding girls' basketball team cemented
an already stellar reputation with its capture of the 2013
University Interscholastic League 5A girls basketball state
championship; the triumph marks the second consecutive season in
which the team has taken the state title; and
WHEREAS, The Pantherettes created a legacy with their
recent win, which came with the 59-36 defeat of the Cibolo Steel
Lady Knights; the team finished with a district record of 14-0,
and it became the first 5A team to achieve 42 wins and zero losses
in a single season; and
WHEREAS, The team is coached by Cathy Self-Morgan, who is in
The University of Texas Hall of Honor; several of her young
athletes have received academic and athletic accolades this
season, and as a team and as an outstanding basketball program, the
Duncanville Pantherettes are indeed deserving of recognition;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the Duncanville High School
Pantherettes on their victory at the 2013 University
Interscholastic League Class 5A basketball state championship;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
