SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 609 WHEREAS, A 75th anniversary marks a lifetime of mutual devotion and shared experiences, and J. B. and Edna Snead of Austin celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on March 21, 2013; and WHEREAS, When J. B. Snead, Jr., met the former Edna Redwine at County Line School, he asked her older brother for permission to escort her home; three years later, in 1938, the couple were joined in matrimony in Fort Sumner, New Mexico; and WHEREAS, The newlyweds began their married life during the Great Depression, when Mr. Snead made 15 cents an hour working 10 hours a day, 6 days a week, while working his own 40-acre farm at the same time; Mrs. Snead coped with a home that lacked electricity and indoor plumbing; and WHEREAS, Longtime residents of Lubbock, Mr. and Mrs. Snead are now pillars of the Austin community, where they enjoy an ever-widening circle of friends; and WHEREAS, They are the proud parents of three children, Gene Snead, Bettye Parker, and Carole Solanki, and over the years they have been further blessed with 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; among her loved ones, Mrs. Snead is especially known for her Sunday sandwiches, her frozen peaches, and her famous "hissing in the pit" story; Mr. Snead takes pleasure in spending time with his great-great-grandchildren, listening to their stories as he drives them in his scooter, and even though he proclaims that he is "blind in one eye and can't see out the other," he still regards his bride with the same joy and admiration as he did on the day of their wedding, three quarters of a century ago; and WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past 75 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate J. B. and Edna Snead on their 75th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Snead as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
