SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 610
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
congratulate the Westlake High School Cheerleaders for attaining
the nation's top honors recently; and
WHEREAS, This dedicated squad realized a long-held dream
when it won the Universal Cheerleaders Association's National
High School Cheerleading Championships in Super Varsity Division
1; the event took place February 9 and 10, 2013, at Walt Disney
World in Orlando; and
WHEREAS, The two-day competition brings together some 475
teams from 33 states; the Westlake High School Cheerleaders won
their division after completing an almost perfect routine; the
national competition pitted them against 23 other highly skilled
cheer squads; and
WHEREAS, This fiercely talented group won the regional
cheerleading competition last fall and earned the qualifying
score that would usher its members onto the national stage; and
WHEREAS, The Westlake Cheer Program is led by Head Coach
Jeff Nixon, assistant coaches Alison Leifeste, Jenna Nelson, and
Jessica Hawkes, and choreographer and competition coach Missy
Hall; the combined efforts of these coaches and their young squad
are indeed praiseworthy and deserving of recognition; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the Westlake High School
Cheerleaders for their victory as Universal Cheerleaders
Association National High School Cheerleading Champions in Super
Varsity Division 1; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the team and its coaches as an expression of esteem from the Texas
Senate.
