SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 614 WHEREAS, The Galveston County 4-H Senior Horse Quiz Bowl Team took first place in the 4-H Western Nationals competition held on January 12, 2013, in Denver, Colorado, besting seven teams from 30 states to bring home the title; and WHEREAS, This exciting achievement came after a number of other outstanding performances by the students during the 2012-2013 season; undefeated in May at the District 9 Round Up, the team went on to defeat 20 other teams to win the state competition in June and the right to advance to the highest level of competition; rounding out the season, team members added to their string of wins by placing first at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, and in so doing, they each earned a $4,000 scholarship; and WHEREAS, The Galveston team is made up of four dedicated young people; Samuel Clark, the son of Ken and Sherry Clark of Algoa, is currently taking dual credit at Alvin Community College, and he plans to enroll at Texas A&M University, where he will focus on veterinary medicine; his teammate, Kiley Ziegelmann is the daughter of Dan and Cheryl Ziegelmann of Santa Fe, Texas; she participates in barrel racing, and she hopes to become a teacher after completing her education; the daughter of Kim Holliday of Santa Fe, Courtney Holliday is in the general studies program taking dual credit at Alvin Community College, and she wishes to eventually become a lawyer; the fourth member of the team is Gretchen Seigfried of Santa Fe, the daughter of Gregg and Judy Seigfried; she has graduated from high school and will study veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, These accomplished young Texans devoted many hours to increasing their knowledge of equine-related topics, and their diligence and commitment to their studies are qualities that will serve them well throughout the years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate the Galveston County 4-H Senior Horse Quiz Bowl Team on winning first place at the 4-H Western Nationals competition and extend to the members of the team sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
