SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 617 In Memory of Paul F. Rogers WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Paul F. Rogers, who died March 21, 2013, at the age of 66; and WHEREAS, Paul Rogers served his country with distinction as an aide and advisor to members of the Texas Legislature and the United States Congress, and his dedication to public service was exemplary; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers was born in Columbia, Missouri; he grew up in Longview, Texas, and was a 1964 graduate of Longview High School; he became interested in a life in public service while attending the University of Houston, where he served as student body president; and WHEREAS, While attending the university, Mr. Rogers began a long and productive working relationship with the late Mickey Leland, and he joined him in Austin as his top aide when Mr. Leland was elected to the state legislature; he later lived in Alexandria, Virginia, and worked in Washington, D.C., where he served as chief of staff for United States Representative Ronald D. Coleman and for Representative Max Sandlin; and WHEREAS, Paul Rogers was a man of courage and integrity who gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his commitment to public service, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Paul F. Rogers; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Paul F. Rogers.
