SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 669 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Tommy Ray Scott, who is retiring on April 25, 2013, after 33 years of exemplary service with the Houston Fire Department; and WHEREAS, Mr. Scott joined the Houston Fire Department in 1980 as a firefighter and has risen through the ranks to achieve the position of engineer operator; and WHEREAS, Throughout his career, he has truly exemplified the department's mission of saving lives, protecting property, and serving the community with courage, commitment, and compassion; he has received numerous commendations and awards for his service, including the Meritorious Service Award, the Unit Valor Medal, and the Fire Chief Commendation Medal; and WHEREAS, He has shown unwavering commitment to the principle of continuing education in the fire services and has obtained numerous advanced credentials; for more than 20 years, he served as an instructor with the San Jacinto College Fire Training Academy, where he was named Instructor of the Decade; and WHEREAS, An exceptional firefighter and public servant, he is respected and admired by his colleagues, and his presence at the Houston Fire Department will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Tommy Ray Scott for his outstanding service to the people of Houston as a member of the Houston Fire Department and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
