SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 676
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Gordon Dickson, who recently received the Excellence in
Journalism Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson is a staff writer for the Fort Worth
Star-Telegram and covers the transportation beat for the paper;
he was honored for his reporting in the 2012 series titled
"Crumbling Infrastructure," in which he called attention to
deteriorating bridges in the Fort Worth area; and
WHEREAS, The articles warned that despite heightened
national attention to infrastructure problems after a disastrous
2007 Minneapolis bridge collapse, conditions on 29 Tarrant
County bridges were worsening; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Dickson was cited by the American Society of
Civil Engineers for his commitment to highlighting
infrastructure issues and his ability to present complex civil
engineering concepts to the general public in an understandable
way; and
WHEREAS, Through his informative articles, Mr. Dickson has
contributed significantly to the public's understanding of
infrastructure deterioration and public safety, and he has
enabled area residents to participate more fully in the public
conversation about these important issues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Gordon Dickson for his
outstanding work and congratulate him on receiving the
Excellence in Journalism Award from the American Society of Civil
Engineers; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
