SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 700 In Memory of Nathan Beyers WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately convey the sorrow felt at the loss of United States Army Sergeant Nathan Beyers, who died in Iraq on July 7, 2011, at the age of 24; and WHEREAS, A member of the Idaho National Guard assigned to the 145th Brigade Support Battalion, 116th Cavalry Heavy Brigade Combat Team, out of Post Falls, Idaho, Sergeant Beyers was killed while supporting combat operations in Baghdad; and WHEREAS, Nathan Beyers was born on April 17, 1987, in Littleton, Colorado, and graduated from high school in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, in 2006; wishing to serve his country, he joined the Idaho National Guard the following year, working as a mechanic and vehicle recovery specialist; he was deployed to Iraq in September 2010; and WHEREAS, Among the decorations Sergeant Beyers posthumously received are the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal with combat star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Combat Action Badge; and WHEREAS, This valiant soldier married the love of his life, Vanessa, before he was deployed, and the couple welcomed a daughter, Ella Jo, into their family on Veterans Day 2010; Sergeant Beyers was known for his boyish smile, and he delighted in spending time with his family, as well as in golfing, camping, fishing, and bow hunting; and WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to our nation's servicemen and servicewomen, whose courageous efforts and enormous sacrifices are deserving of their fellow citizens' deepest respect and gratitude, and although the passing of Sergeant Beyers leaves a void in the lives of his loved ones, they will forever carry their memories of him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Sergeant Nathan Beyers and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Vanessa Beyers; to his daughter, Ella Jo Beyers; to his mother, Natalie Bittner, and her husband, Brian; to his father, Timothy Beyers, and his stepmother, Sonja; to his siblings, Tyler Beyers and Caelyne Bittner; to his stepbrother, Cody; to his stepsisters, Lacey and Brianna; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of United States Army Sergeant Nathan Beyers.
