SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 737
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
recognizing Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County, which recently
celebrated the delivery of its 16-millionth meal; and
WHEREAS, For many years, Meals on Wheels has been more than
a source of sustenance for elderly, disabled, and homebound
persons; it is also a lifeline, and its volunteer meal deliveries
are an occasion that many recipients look forward to each day;
and
WHEREAS, The Tarrant County group delivers an estimated
19,000 meals each week, and its staff members depend on the
generosity of some 4,000 volunteers to deliver them; in 2012
alone, 4,740 Tarrant County residents received meals, and for
some, it was their only source of nourishment; and
WHEREAS, In many cases, Meals on Wheels deliveries allow
elderly persons to live independently in their homes longer than
they would otherwise be able to; the provision of hot, nutritious
meals is a vital service for many of these vulnerable citizens,
and the personal interaction with delivery volunteers further
enhances the quality of life of these valued community members;
and
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County fulfills an
important and compassionate mission on a daily basis, and the
achievement of having delivered 16 million meals over the years
is a true testament to the program's success; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the leaders and volunteers of Meals
on Wheels of Tarrant County on their dedication to improving the
lives of their fellow community members and extend to all best
wishes for further success in their worthy endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
this exceptional organization as an expression of high regard
from the Texas Senate.
