SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 770
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
join Texans across the state in observing April 30, 2013, as
Autism Awareness Day at the State Capitol; and
WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders affect people from all
walks of life, regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic
status, or geography; autism has been identified by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention as a national public health
crisis, and its cause and cure remain unknown; and
WHEREAS, Many people in this state and across the nation
are working to provide support to those affected by autism and to
help to find treatments and a cure; and
WHEREAS, The Autism Society of America is the nation's
oldest and largest grassroots organization serving those
affected by autism spectrum disorders; its 107 local and state
affiliates help more than a million people each year by providing
the latest information, referral sources, and lifespan support
and assistance; and
WHEREAS, Autism Speaks was founded in 2005 and has grown to
become the world's leading autism science and advocacy
organization; dedicated to funding research on the causes,
prevention, and treatment of autism and to finding a cure, this
exceptional organization is also an invaluable advocate for the
needs of individuals with autism and their families; and
WHEREAS, Each person with an autism spectrum disorder
should be provided every opportunity to have the highest possible
quality of life, and it is truly fitting that a day be set aside
to raise awareness about this crucial issue; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend the efforts of all who assist or
advocate for persons with autism spectrum disorders and
designate April 30, 2013, as Autism Awareness Day at the State
Capitol; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
honor of this special day.
