                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 785
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
 recognize Dominic J. Yurk for his outstanding academic achievements
 and his dedication to his work as a mentor and a tutor; and
 WHEREAS, Dominic is a 16-year-old senior at Paschal High
 School in Fort Worth, where he ranks sixth in his graduating
 class and is president of the science club; he is also a leader on
 the Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Sciences
 competition team, and he is leading and helping to prepare the
 school's teams for the upcoming Physics Bowl and the United
 States Department of Energy National Science Bowl in Washington,
 D.C.; and
 WHEREAS, He placed second at the Exxon Mobil Texas State
 Science and Engineering Fair in San Antonio for his chaos theory
 project, and he had the state's highest score at a University
 Interscholastic League district science competition earlier this
 year; for three consecutive years, he has been the state champion
 in physics at the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association's
 science competition; and
 WHEREAS, He is noted for his love of learning and for the
 enjoyment he derives from serving as a mentor to his peers and
 fellow scholars, as well as from serving as a tutor to those who
 are struggling with basic mathematics and science concepts; he
 launched a mentoring program at McLean Middle School and has
 strived to inspire others at his high school to carry on with the
 culture of mentorship after his departure for college; and
 WHEREAS, Dominic looks forward to studying at the
 prestigious California Institute of Technology following his
 high school graduation; he is truly deserving of recognition for
 his exceptional achievements; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby commend Dominic J. Yurk on his hard work and
 commitment to helping others through his service as a mentor and
 a tutor and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all
 his endeavors; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
