SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 788 In Memory of Wayland Coats Rivers Jr. WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Wayland Coats Rivers Jr., who died February 26, 2012, at the age of 84; and WHEREAS, Wayland Rivers Jr. was born August 23, 1927, in Austin; a graduate of Kemper Military Academy, he earned a master's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University and a degree from The University of Texas School of Law; he served his country in the United States Air Force; and WHEREAS, He married Jo Ellen Larkin in 1955, and the couple was blessed with three children; in 1970, he married Ann Staacke Rivers, and together they enjoyed a strong and happy union; and WHEREAS, Mr. Rivers had a productive career as a lawyer and a businessman; after serving as an assistant attorney general, he joined the Austin law firm now known as McGinnis, Lochridge, and Kilgore; he left the firm to establish a private practice and to manage his family's brick company and agriculture interests; he was an avid outdoorsman and a dedicated rancher who developed magnificent ranches and beautiful cattle herds; he dearly loved his Encino Ranch in McMullen County; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, generosity, and many talents, he gave unselfishly to others and to his community; he was devoted to his family and lived each day to the fullest, and he leaves behind memories that will not be forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Wayland Coats Rivers Jr.; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Wayland Rivers Jr. Zaffirini ________________________________ President of the Senate I hereby certify that the above Resolution was adopted by the Senate on April 30, 2013, by a rising vote. ________________________________ Secretary of the Senate ________________________________ Member, Texas Senate
