SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 797 In Memory of Juan B. Sanchez WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Juan B. Sanchez, who died October 13, 2011, at the age of 79; and WHEREAS, Juan Sanchez was born June 24, 1932, in San Benito; he learned the value of hard work at an early age while helping his family meet the challenges of the Great Depression; it was during those years that he discovered his love of music, and he taught himself how to play guitar on the homemade instruments he fashioned from scrap wood and the wire from window screens; and WHEREAS, He served the nation with distinction in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army; after his military service, he returned to Texas and began a 13-year career with the International Boundary and Water Commission; while working at the commission, his entrepreneurial spirit and work ethic came into play as he also established a number of businesses, including a bakery, a bar, and J. B. Sanchez Groceries, all of which he operated while also maintaining livestock at his home; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sanchez was elected to serve as Precinct 3 constable for Cameron County, and he held this important position for 24 years; known as the People's Constable, he served the county's citizens with compassion, humility, and an unerring sense of justice; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his career in law enforcement, he was a good steward of the county's finances and refused the usual upgrades for his personal patrol vehicle; he was noted for his ability to resolve tense situations and was often called upon by other agencies to assist in apprehending difficult suspects; and WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his eternal optimism, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten; and WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Juan B. Sanchez; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Juan Sanchez.
