SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 82 In Memory of Nancy Paxton Moody WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Nancy Paxton Moody, who died January 3, 2013; and WHEREAS, Nancy Moody was born in 1932, the second child and only daughter of former Texas Governor Dan Moody; she grew up in Austin's Old Enfield neighborhood and was a 1950 graduate of Austin High School; and WHEREAS, She attended The University of Texas, where she majored in mathematics, was active in the Pi Beta Phi sorority, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa; she went on to earn a degree from The University of Texas School of Law, and after her graduation she served for a time as parliamentarian of the Texas Senate; and WHEREAS, Throughout her life, she nurtured a love of horses and equestrian sports; she and her horse, Linebacker, won numerous awards, notably several consecutive Texas Amateur Hunter Championships, and she helped finance United States Olympic equestrian teams; and WHEREAS, She combined her love of horses and her love of the law through her efforts with the Texas Hunter and Jumper Association; she rewrote the rules for horse shows in Texas, and the organization's current rule book continues to reflect her work and her outlook; and WHEREAS, A woman of courage, strength, and compassion, she gave unselfishly to others, and she will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; and WHEREAS, She was devoted to her large and loving extended family, and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by all those who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Nancy Paxton Moody; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Nancy Moody.
