SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 841 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Bob McDonald for his exemplary efforts to support and maintain the historic Athens Cemetery in Henderson County; and WHEREAS, Bob McDonald is a descendant of early Henderson County pioneers; for more than 15 years, he has played a vital role in the cemetery's operation, serving as treasurer, public liaison, and overseer of the grounds; and WHEREAS, A retired engineer, Mr. McDonald began his work at the cemetery at a time when it was badly in need of refurbishment; he designed and oversaw the installation of a new sprinkler system, a new brick entry and wrought-iron fencing, a columbarium, and numerous other improvements; and WHEREAS, Mr. McDonald spearheaded efforts to research and classify the cemetery's interments so that visitors could easily find the graves they sought; he also created a roster of veterans buried at the cemetery that dates back to 1850 and is sorted according to the conflict in which the veterans served; and WHEREAS, He has worked with such organizations as the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sons of the Republic of Texas, and the Masonic Lodge to honor and preserve their role and their presence at this historic site; he is truly deserving of recognition for his exemplary efforts on behalf of the people of Athens and Henderson County; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Bob McDonald on his exceptional stewardship of the Athens Cemetery and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
