SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 856 In Memory of Walter Christensen WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Dr. Walter Christensen, who died April 17, 2013, at the age of 75; and WHEREAS, This devoted family man and gifted veterinarian was highly regarded by his peers and was much admired by his friends and relatives for his strong work ethic and his sense of humor; and WHEREAS, Born on June 6, 1937, in Newell, Iowa, Walt Christensen attended Iowa State University and obtained a doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1959; he served his country with distinction as a captain in the United States Army and was a leader in his community; and WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Dr. Christensen was deeply committed to caring for animals; he tended to them in his private veterinary practice and also as a regional director of animal care for the United States Department of Agriculture; and WHEREAS, Dr. Christensen lived his life to the fullest, and he gave willingly of his time to help others in need; and WHEREAS, This beloved gentleman is survived by his wife of 25 years, Yunhui, and his five sons and nine grandchildren; he was well known for his integrity, strength, and generosity, and he will forever be remembered for his compassion and his commitment to his work; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Dr. Walter Christensen; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Walt Christensen.
