SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 857 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Paulie Ayala, who has been named the recipient of the 2013 Believing in Youth Award; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ayala is receiving this prestigious honor from Santa Fe Youth Services at its 10th Annual Mike Moncrief Believing in Youth Award VIP Reception and Dinner; the Believing in Youth Award is presented annually to recognize an individual who takes personal responsibility for contributing to the healthy and positive development of children; and WHEREAS, Paulie Ayala is a two-time world champion boxer who compiled an impressive record of 35 victories against only three defeats, with 12 knockouts; he was named Fighter of the Year in 1999 by Ring magazine; and WHEREAS, Today, he operates Paulie Ayala's University of Hard Knocks Boxing and Fitness Gym in Fort Worth, where he helps prepare young people to achieve their highest potential in boxing; he is also the founder of the Paulie Ayala Foundation, which provides athletic training to underprivileged young people while supporting and promoting their education; and WHEREAS, Mr. Ayala has set an inspirational example for others as an athlete and as a committed advocate for young people, and he is truly deserving of recognition for his many achievements; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Paulie Ayala on his exceptional work in helping young people achieve their fullest potential and extend to him congratulations on receiving the 2013 Believing in Youth Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
