SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 858 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Richard Crummel, who is retiring as superintendent of the Burleson Independent School District after more than 40 years of outstanding service as an educator; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of North Texas, Richard Crummel began his career in education in 1972 as a teacher with the Fort Worth Independent School District; he joined the Burleson Independent School District in 1979 as the band director at Burleson High School and went on to serve as the school's assistant principal and principal; and WHEREAS, Under his exceptional leadership, the school's rating by the Texas Education Agency was raised from Acceptable to Exemplary, and there was a marked improvement in student attendance and test scores; in 1996, Mr. Crummel was a state finalist for Administrator of the Year; and WHEREAS, A gifted and resourceful educator, Mr. Crummel gave generously of his time and talent to his students; in 2007, he became executive director of Learning Supports and Public Relations, and he later went on to serve with distinction as the district's chief administrative officer and as its superintendent; and WHEREAS, Mr. Crummel is respected and admired by his colleagues in the field of education and by the entire Burleson community, and his presence with the Burleson Independent School District will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Richard Crummel on his exceptional contributions to the Burleson Independent School District and the state and extend to him appreciation for his outstanding leadership as the district's superintendent and for his longtime service as an educator; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
