SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 859
In Memory
of
Carroll Wright Collins
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Carroll Wright
Collins, who died April 12, 2013, at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, Carroll Collins was born January 4, 1931, in Fort
Worth to Joe and Harriet Sargeant Wright Collins; he attended
Paschal High School and graduated from The University of Texas at
Austin; he served the nation with distinction as a member of the
United States Navy and retired with the rank of lieutenant
commander; and
WHEREAS, After his military service, he returned to Fort
Worth and joined his uncle, Lucien H. Wright, in the insurance
industry; he purchased his uncle's insurance agency in 1972, and it
thrived under his leadership and continues to flourish today; and
WHEREAS, A man of many interests and innate generosity, he
became involved with numerous philanthropic and civic
organizations; he was an ardent supporter of the Van Cliburn
Piano Competition, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, and the
Fort Worth Opera; he also helped to found the Botanical Research
Institute of Texas, and the institute's reception room is named
in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Collins was particularly interested in
historical renovation and was a member of the Irish Georgian
Society, which was dedicated to restoring and maintaining
examples of Georgian architecture in Ireland; he and his longtime
friend, Joe Minton, renovated a historic residence with such
grandeur that it was featured in Southern Accents magazine; and
WHEREAS, Known for his gregarious and engaging personality,
Mr. Collins entertained frequently at the River Crest Country Club
and the Fort Worth Club, and he occasionally was host to several
foreign dignitaries; he was a lifelong member of Saint Andrew's
Episcopal Church; and
WHEREAS, A man of strength and compassion, he gave generously
to others, and his courage in the face of a debilitating handicap
and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
forgotten by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Carroll Wright Collins; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Carroll Collins.
