                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 863
 In Memory
 of
 Pat Young Steed
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
 citizens of Childress in mourning the loss of former mayor Pat
 Young Steed, who died April 21, 2013, at the age of 65; and
 WHEREAS, Pat Steed was born September 27, 1947, in
 Childress, to Bernice and Mildred Young Steed; he was a 1966
 graduate of Childress High School and a 1970 graduate of West
 Texas State University; and
 WHEREAS, While serving as a vice principal and coach in the
 Harlingen Independent School District, he met Jackie Burrows,
 and they were married on June 27, 1975; he returned to Childress
 with his new family and joined his mother in the family business,
 H. S. Abstractor, Incorporated; and
 WHEREAS, Mr. Steed served as a city council member and
 mayor pro tempore for 10 years and he was elected mayor in 1987;
 he served the city with distinction in that position for 18 years
 and retired in 2005; and
 WHEREAS, He also played an important role in making the
 Childress Regional Medical Center an exemplary hospital through
 his work with the Medical Action Crisis Committee; and
 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
 daily life, Mr. Steed was a member of First United Methodist
 Church, where he served as treasurer; he also taught the Upper
 Room Sunday School class for many years, served on all the church
 committees, and was active as a leader in youth activities; and
 WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
 gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued
 counsel will not be forgotten; he leaves behind memories that
 will be treasured forever by his family and countless friends;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Pat Young Steed; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Pat Young Steed.
