SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 867 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Westlake High School Mentorship Program and the work of Independent Study Mentorship teacher Vicky Abney; and WHEREAS, The Westlake High School Mentorship Program requires junior and senior students to shadow professionals in the workplace in order to gain insight into and knowledge about a career of interest; the program is taught as an independent study course, challenging students to master time management and self-discipline; and WHEREAS, Vicky Abney has been the committed leader of the program for five consistent years; during this time, the program has seen effective changes and increased interest from its students; and WHEREAS, Vicky Abney has been a key component in the success of the program, encouraging students to reach beyond their comfort zones and establish real-world connections; she has shaped and reformed the program over time, ensuring that it both inspires and challenges students; she constantly encourages students to establish and reach career goals as she helps them prepare to pursue higher levels of education; and WHEREAS, The Westlake High School Mentorship Program is a shining example of the innovative and effective techniques that can help high school students discover their passions and reach their highest potential; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Westlake High School Mentorship Program and Vicky Abney for their commitment to excellence in public education; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Vicky Abney as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
