                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 874
 WHEREAS, Proud residents of Round Rock came together on
 April 27, 2013, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the
 incorporation of their community; and
 WHEREAS, First settled in the 1830s and named after an
 anvil-shaped boulder in nearby Brushy Creek, Round Rock was already
 a bustling community at the turn of the century, serving as a stop
 on the Chisholm Trail, home to Trinity Lutheran College, and the
 site of the death of legendary outlaw Sam Bass; and
 WHEREAS, In December 1912, the citizens of Round Rock voted
 to incorporate their city, and they also elected their first
 mayor and city council; the following year, they created a school
 district and installed the town's first streetlights; the city
 became the home of a variety of businesses, including the Round
 Rock Cheese Factory, which opened in 1928 and ran until the early
 1970s; the city also became a regional transportation hub,
 situated at the junction of Highway 81 and I-35; and
 WHEREAS, Today, Round Rock is a thriving city of 105,000
 people and home to two Fortune 500 companies, Dell and Emerson
 Process Management, a division of Emerson Electric; it boasts
 campuses of Austin Community College, Texas State University,
 the Art Institute, and the Texas A&M Health Science Center, and
 the city's Dell Diamond draws fans from around the region for
 games of the Round Rock Express triple-A baseball team; and
 WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich history as they work to
 build a bright and prosperous future, the people of Round Rock
 may indeed take great pride in their city as they embark upon
 their next 100 years; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
 Legislature, hereby commemorate the centennial of the
 incorporation of Round Rock and extend to its citizens best
 wishes for the future; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for the City of Round Rock as an expression of high
 regard by the Texas Senate.
