                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 885
 In Memory
 of
 Marion Lee Halford, Sr.
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Marion Lee Halford, Sr., who died March
 10, 2012, at the age of 92; and
 WHEREAS, Marion Lee Halford, Sr., was a veteran of the
 United States Navy and an esteemed community leader in Dallas;
 and
 WHEREAS, Born on June 2, 1919, at the family farm in
 Richardson, Lee Halford earned a degree in civil engineering from
 Southern Methodist University in 1942 and was subsequently
 commissioned as a naval officer; during World War II, he served
 with the United States Navy Construction Battalion, also known as
 Seabees, and built airfields throughout the Pacific theater; and
 WHEREAS, After the war, he returned to the Dallas area,
 where he was employed by the consulting engineering firm of
 Forrest and Cotton; he joined the Industrial Properties
 Corporation in 1966, and he retired as its president in 1990; and
 WHEREAS, Over the years, he conscientiously gave back to
 his community; a longtime member of the Rotary Club, he was also a
 board member and chairman of the board of managers of Parkland
 Hospital and a director of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the
 State Fair of Texas, and Southwestern Medical Foundation; and
 WHEREAS, This exemplary citizen had a passion for
 traveling, and he had the good fortune of being able to visit all
 seven continents during his lifetime; he was also proud of his
 family; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
 brought him great joy over the years; Mr. Halford was a kind and
 dedicated man, and his memory will long be cherished by all who
 knew him; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
 83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
 bereaved family of Marion Lee Halford, Sr.; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Lee Halford.
