SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 899
In Memory
of
Kevin Cardoza
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of United States Army Specialist Kevin
Cardoza, who died in the line of duty May 4, 2013, at the age of
19, while serving his country in Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Cardoza was born August 26, 1993, in
Edinburg; he joined the military in July of 2011 and was assigned
to Company C, 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade
Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, based at Fort Bliss; he was
selected to be a member of the reconnaissance platoon; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Cardoza received several medals and
commendations over the course of his military career, including a
Bronze Star and a Purple Heart; and
WHEREAS, A true American hero, he has joined the long line
of brave men and women who have served in our nation's wars and
peacekeeping missions and whose selfless devotion and strength
have left an indelible mark on the world; and
WHEREAS, A young man of courage, strength, and patriotism,
he gave unselfishly to others, and his devotion to duty and his
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
forgotten; and
WHEREAS, He was devoted to his fiancée and his two daughters,
and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by
his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of United States Army Specialist Kevin Cardoza; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Specialist Kevin Cardoza.
