SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 92 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of Bryan and College Station in celebrating February 6, 2013, as Bryan-College Station Day at the State Capitol; and WHEREAS, These neighboring cities share the distinction of being home to Texas A&M University, established just south of Bryan in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas; located at the postal railway stop called College Station, the future university town originated as a planned community for professors; and WHEREAS, The City of Bryan was established in 1859 and named after William Joel Bryan, the nephew of Texas pioneer Stephen F. Austin; Bryan incorporated in 1871 and grew into a vibrant and diverse city of commerce; and WHEREAS, College Station burgeoned along with the university, experiencing major growth in the 1960s, when the school opened its doors to women and adopted the name Texas A&M University; today, Texas A&M is one of the largest public universities in the nation; and WHEREAS, This thriving area is also home to the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum; the library chronicles the administration of George Herbert Walker Bush, the 41st president of the United States, and houses more than 40,000 artifacts and one million audiovisual records; since its opening in 1997, the presidential library has hosted more than 690,000 visitors; and WHEREAS, Set amid rich, rolling farmlands, the two venerable cities of Bryan and College Station share a steadfast commitment to higher education, cultural enrichment, and enduring traditions; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby join the proud area citizens in celebrating Bryan-College Station Day at the State Capitol on February 6, 2013; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
